Fantasy in the Fall – Come along and enjoy some beautiful string music from Camerata with conductor, Patrick Shepherd on Sunday at 3.00pm in the lovely St Augustine’s Church on Tickets $10; $5 concession (seniors, students) $20 families.
Camerata’s first concert of the year celebrates Autumn with all the diverse orchestral colours reminiscent of this bitter-sweet season. The programme spans the chronological and geographical range of the string repertoire, from 17th Century England in Purcell’s Three-Part Fantasia no.3 to 20th Century New Zealand in Lilburn’s Allegro for Strings. Also featured is the beautifully serene Elegy, Elgar’s tribute to his close friend, Augustus Jaeger (“Nimrod” in the set of variations bearing that name), and Mozart’s evergreen third Divertimento, from the series of light chamber pieces sometimes called the “Salzburg Symphonies”. In addition, we highlight three members of the orchestra – Cherry McCallum, Carol Frost and Morag Macpherson – as soloists in a performance of Corelli’s Concerto Grosso no. 3.
