CSM Festival of Adult Music Learning

We are excited to announce another new initiative for 2020 – A Festival of Adult Music Learning from 7-13 September.

This is being run with the support of ACE Aotearoa as part of a national week of celebration and “2020 – The Year of Lifelong Learning”.

There are a range of free workshops to attend, open rehearsals of our adult ensembles and a celebratory concert featuring CSM Adult Music Performing Groups.

PROGRAMME

WORKSHOPS

All workshops are free

Monday 7 Sept 6.30pm-8.00pm – Ukulele – CSM Rm 3

Come along and have a strum – we can provide ukuleles if you don’t have one

Tuesday 8 September 7.30pm – 9.00pm – Community Singing with Acapellago – Phillipstown Hub Rm 6       POSTPONED

Join world music choir Acapellago for a sing along – simple songs that can be easily learned

Wednesday 9 September 6.30pm – 8.00pm – Musicianship for Adults – CSM Rm 3

Do you want to keep up with your children who are learning music? A fun and engaging workshop to introduce you to some basics of music.

Thursday 10 September 6.30pm – 8.00pm – Samba Band – CSM Rm 3

Come and get your rhythm groove on playing some Brazilian Samba. All the rhythms will be taught – music reading not essential

Friday 11 September 7.30pm – 9.00pm – West African Drumming – Phillipstown Hub Rm 6

An opportunity to experience the thrill of West African Drumming performing traditional music and rhythms from Ghana

Everyone welcome – bring your instrument or your voice and join in, or just come along for a listen

If you have only been playing a string instrument for a few years or you played when you were younger this is a group you will be interested in.

Saturday 12 September

  • CSM Windpower 10.30am – 12.00pm – Linwood College – P7

For all players of flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, bassoon who have been learning for a few years.

  • CSM Concert Band 1.30pm – 3.00pm – Linwood College – Gymnasium

For more advanced players of wind and brass instruments

  • CSM Big Band 3.00pm – 4.30pm – Linwood College Music Room (J15)

For players of Big Band instruments – saxophone, trumpet, trombone, guitar, drums, keyboard

Christchurch School of Music (CSM) – access from 140 Barbadoes St – drive into the Wilson’s carpark and head diagonally across through the gate to the four portacoms.

Phillipstown Hub – 309 Nursery Rd – drive in, find a park and head to Room 6

Linwood College – Now based at the old Avonside Girls’ High School site at 180 Avonside Drive.

Fendalton Community Centre – 170 Clyde Rd
