Keith Sayers was a member of the New Zealand National Youth Orchestra for several years. After teaching in Dunedin he studied oboe in Germany, thereafter performing professionally in orchestras, chamber ensembles and recitals, both there and in Denmark. In addition to private teaching, he was also the oboe tutor at the Albert Schweitzer College, Hamburg's prestigious specialist music secondary school.
