Supplementary lessons

Theory lesson - hands

These courses are useful for all students, as they assist in their development as all round musicians, and especially those intending to take up music professionally.

Students are advised to commence aural perception and theory studies at an early age, and to continue to develop their aural skills and theoretical knowledge while learning performing skills. It is not advisable to leave these studies until secondary school level, when students become involved in many other activities.

Students who enter for external practical examinations will find the aural perception course of great value in preparing for the examinations. Students interested in sitting higher practical examinations should be aware that the Associated Board of Royal Schools of Music requires a pass in grade 5 theory (or higher) before candidates may sit grade 6.

Although students are strongly advised to enrol for these courses, tuition classes and orchestral band requirements must take precedence if there are any timetable clashes.
