Orchestral strings

Simply Strings violins The string section provides the foundation tone of a full symphony orchestra. Large numbers are required to maintain the balance between the strings, woodwind, brass and percussion. The violin, viola, cello and double bass comprise the string section of an orchestra.

Parents considering enrolling their children in string classes should note that prospects of promotion are good, and annual progression through the lower orchestras is possible. Students are particularly welcomed from the Recorder School.

During the first year students attend lessons only and the emphasis is on technique and posture. Music reading is also taught immediately except in Suzuki classes, and tuition is designed to lead up to participation in the annual Showcase Concert. Students are encouraged to join an orchestra as soon as possible, usually from the second year. From the second year onwards, students may be given the opportunity to sit external practical music examinations.

More advanced string players are able to participate in chamber music classes available at the School. Those receiving lessons outside the School who wish to join the School's orchestras or chamber groups should contact the appropriate supervisor immediately so that auditions can be scheduled.
