Christchurch School of MusicPercussionists contribute to a variety of groups around the CSM; including orchestras, concert bands, jazz bands, pop bands and percussion ensembles.
Percussion tuition starts on the practice pad and moves onto the drum kit during the first year. Practice pads and sticks can be purchased through the tutor, who can also aid in purchase of a drum kit. Access to a drum kit for practice purposes will be important by the end of the first year.
From the second year percussionists generally join a CSM performing group and learn the appropriate new instruments (Bass Drum, Cymbals, Tambourine etc). During the third or fourth year, keyboard percussion instruments (xylophone/glockenspiel) and Timpani are also taught.
