Christchurch School of MusicThe trombone is another versatile instrument which is useful in orchestra, band, jazz and rock music. Its form has remained the same for hundreds of years; it is elegant and unique in its construction, having a long sliding section used to change note pitch. It is larger than the trumpet, but as long as the four permanent front teeth are in place, even a small beginner can easily learn to play. The trombone's versatility is starting to make it attractive to play, and there are a wide range of opportunities for trombonists in all the groups at the School of Music, especially as trombonists always seem to be in short supply. The CSM has a number of very fine trombones for hire.
