Due to the earthquake and subsequent closure of the schools in Christchurch, the Christchurch Youth Orchestra Quiz Night on Friday 11th September has been CANCELLED.

The CYO is the top-ranked orchestra of the Christchurch School of Music, comprising our best musicians between the ages of 16 and 25. It is mentored by Brian Buggy.

The standard of the CYO has been reflected over the years in dozens of favourable press reviews and many alumni having gone on to pursue international careers in music. CYO members past or present can be found in the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra, the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and other elite groups.

The CYO maintains a high profile in the Christchurch concert music scene, performing concerts in such iconic venues as the Christchurch Cathedral and acting as host for visiting ensembles from overseas. It also goes on tour most years, with recent destinations as being as diverse as Sydney and Stewart Island.

In 2010, the CYO is proud to have Nick Coxon as conductor for the first part of the year, followed by Philip Norman for the second part.
