Annual Showcase concert

CSM Showcase 2009 massed item

This year the 2011 Showcase will be a week of smaller concerts in various venues around Christchurch, from Oct 30 - Nov 6.

Every year in Term 3, CSM's fabulous annual Showcase Concert is held in the Christchurch Town Hall. All CSM students, Happy Music Starters through to the Christchurch Youth Orchestra have an opportunity to be part of this exciting event. It doesn't matter if students are having group lessons, individual lessons, learning at CSM or through the CSM's Outreach programme at their own schools; or just playing in an ensemble—everyone is part of Showcase.

The 'massed item'

The highlight of the concert is always the finale—a massed item played by a huge orchestra made up of almost every student in the school. In the CSM office and in the passage outside you can see some of the wonderful photos of past massed items which will give you a great idea of just how big they can be. Imagine the excitement of playing in an orchestra of up to 1000 players! Even beginners take part as the CSM library has parts for all instruments from the very simple to the most advanced. It's all about taking part and having the never-to-be forgotten experience of playing on the Town Hall stage.
